THe Quilt Trail

The National Quilt Trail began in Adams County Ohio in 2001 when Donna Sue Groves kept a promise to her mother, master quilter Nina Maxine Groves, to paint a quilt on her barn.

That simple gesture of love has evolved into a state-wide effort to grace barns across America with the quilts of our heritage.   Today’s trail stretches from Iowa to North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and back to Ohio with many counties joining each year.

You have probably seen them  from the highway as you travel down I-75 into Madison County.  Other participating Kentucky counties include  Fleming, Rowan, Bath, Carter, Elliott, Menifee, Montgomery and Morgan, to name a few.  The quilt squares provide a unique driving tour within each county drawing tourists off the Interstate Highway  following the quilt trails to agritourism businesses, historical sites, and tourist attractions.

In addition to creating beautiful public art, the Jessamine County Quilt Trail will include an oral history, recorded to CD for travelers to enjoy on their visit, a map displaying all the quilt sites, and places of interest on the route.

This web site will grow as the Quilt Trail grows. Please check back often and check our progress.
